Champleve Enamel Ewer,
Cups and Tray with Western
Lady Decor
Ch'ien-lung period (A.D.
1736-1795)
Ch'ing Dynasty
Height 18.8cm
This is an example
of champleve enamel
and painted enamel
techniques being used on
the same piece, with the
reserves being decorated
with flowers and Western
ladies in painted enamels.
The cups have handles with
a gilded openwork cloud
pattern. The result is a
sophisticated blending of
Chinese and Western
elements.
